Abstract
The demands for greater safety on the roads, as well as simultaneous reductions in environmental pollution have increased with the immense growth in traffic density over the last decades.
Development efforts to fulfil these demands center on:
efficient use of resources, like energy and raw materials,
reduction of noise and pollutant emissions,
long service life, combined with low operational costs,
high degree of vehicle availability and
greatest possible safety for driver and freight.
