Abstract
The pressure field of the tone components of an automotive air conditioning fan was investigated. Noise characteristics were measured with a conventional ¼ inch microphone in a semi-anechoic room at different locations closed to the outlet of the blower. Experimental results were used in order to calculate the source for a BEM Variational Uncoupled model of the blower by means of the equivalent source method. A dipole source was chosen on the basis of previous works and it was placed close to the edge cut-off to simulate the noise generation. Two source configurations were applied in order to tune the model by changing the number of sources. A reasonable agreement between the measured and the calculated acoustic behaviour was highlighted taking into account the limits of the modelling.
