Abstract

The subject of this paper is an experimental dynamic study of automotive wheels. Particularly a wheel Saab 640/6Jx15H2 clamped on the hub of a vehicle Saab 9. 5 has been analysed. Dynamic parameters (natural frequencies and mode shapes) were obtained. The experimental modal analysis was first performed by analysing the hanging wheel clamped on the automotive hub, that is with the vehicle on a lift-bridge. The experimental study was then performed by analysing the wheel constrained on the hub of the vehicle and laying on the ground. The analysis was performed by utilising both impulse and random excitation.

Finally the experimental results were compared to those obtained in laboratory on the same Saab wheel in constraint conditions on a test hub simulating the vehicle real clamp.
