Abstract
A method based on fractal subpolygons is proposed to remove shape imperfections for curve and surface generation. The concept of fractal dimension of a spline, as descriptor of its tortuosity, allows geometrical comparisons for different profiles. Adopting methods that iterate a set of contractive affine transformation, the numbers that describe it are called IFS codes.
Tipically for generation, rather than representation, of geometrics obtained from digitized data, the proposed method appears to be a practical tool for early interpretation of compatibility conditions and geometric continuity, in the problems of solid modeling and in the translation of structural model of finite element analysis.
