Abstract

This paper presents the different approaches carried out by the Vehicle Dynamics Team of the Accident Mechanism Analysis Research Unit of IFSTTAR in France, during the last quarter of century, to study the interactions between the components of the driver-vehicle-road system from an active safety point of view. Mixing naturalistic driving experiments and real accident in-depth analyses, these researches are now focused on a new kind of embedded data collection, dealing with road incidents (near-miss), for which a dedicated drive recorder called EMMA2 was developed. The national project SVRAI is then presented, and the new investigation detailed.

Keywords: road incident, drive recorder, accident, vehicle dynamics, naturalistic driving.
