Abstract

In manual transmission, several components comprise under shifting system, such as sleeve, hub, gear and shift fork for engaging and disengaging the different gears. The Shift fork which transfers the shift force from the internal shift system to gear sleeve, to enable engagement of sleeve to corresponding gear. Shift fork is a very crucial component of shifting system, which assists in frequent gear shifting and subjected to fatigue loading [1]. Hence it is very important to design the shift fork for structural strength to avoid the breakage, and these designs often need to be validated through simulation and testing. Physical testing demands more on pre-production prototypes which are costly and time consuming to arrive at final design [2]. By using the proposed method, shift fork load carrying capacity can be predicted using FEM.
