Abstract
Active Safety for Pedestrian Protection by Detection and Classification of Pedestrians in urban traffic
Use of a high resolution laserscanner with a horizontal field of view of 180° and a vertical field of view of 3.2° (for compensation of the pitching angle)
Detection: measured distances to all objects in the field of view (distance accuracy: +/5 cm per shot and angle resolution: 0.25°)
Tracking: calculation of absolute movement of the object by compensation of the movement of the test vehicle (based on ESP-Signals and vehicle speed)
Classification: based on shape and absolute speed of the object, up to a maxi-mum range of 35m for pedestrians in day and night
Description of the Algorithms in order to analyse the raw data (distances, horizontal and vertical angles) based on a measurement frequency of 57.600 Hz
Presentation of Results for Pedestrian Detection and Classification in public traffic
Presentation of Examples with real Laserscanner data and - as a reference - video data in urban scenarios (as shown in figure 1-3: bird view shows laserscanner raw data and object data, synchronised with video as a reference).
