ABSTRACT
The automotive lighting system has an essential contribution to the increase of traffic safety, stress reduction and comfort increase under reduced visibility conditions. The objective of the automotive lighting development is to harmonise a functional lighting concept undertaking stylistic factors with a construction design, but at the same time, the adaptability of the human eye mat also be considered. After a short analysis of the main results obtained until 1990, the paper reveals the new lighting conceptions and their effects upon the increasing traffic safety. The paper analyses the way light distribution ensures optimal conditions under all traffic conditions (town light, country light, motorway light, adverse weather light) by using the adaptive front lighting systems. There also analysed the new solutions, headlamps using active Night Vision Systems based on invisible infrared illumination.
