ABSTRACT

Passenger car seats are designed so as to enable drivers and passengers sitting position of and to reduce, as much as possible, the vibration influence. This issue is of major importance in vehicle design phase. In most cases, vehicle manufactures use their own seat testing standards. The need was raised in R&D of ZASTAVA Institute for Automobiles for upgrading seat-testing method. Suggested method was based on seat research results in service conditions and determination of seat transfer functions in three directions. Field investigations were performed in order to determine the dominant passenger loading in service conditions. Vehicles, roads and speeds were varied. The results obtained were analyzed for transfer function characteristics of a multiple input/output system model. The analysis results confirmed that in order to improve seat testing methods it is necessary to define new methods from the aspect of ride comfort and use multi-axial excitations.
