Abstract

ABSTRACT:

The paper presents some variants taken into account for a car powertrain currently under construction at Pitesti University, Automotive Department. The propulsion system is designated for a mini vehicle (city car) and is designed for ultra low fuel consumption, as well as capability of zero emission-vehicle (ZEV) in some pollution-free urban areas. The authors study the possible layouts of the vehicle, and then take into account the various potential powertrain configurations for it. Through the use of dynamic modeling and computer simulation, the authors choose one of the three analyzed propulsion system layouts. An important factor is also the cost, as well as the technological difficulties. Simple block diagram models, together with bond graphs, are used to simulate the automobile's dynamical performance in the three cases. Conclusions regarding the most suitable variant are made.
