Abstract
The cockpit is the control- and information center of the automobile. Many components have to be installed inside the cockpit due to their function, often at exactly defined places. E-xamples are steering wheel, operating elements, instrument cluster, driver information system, air conditioning and airbags. The increase of functions in the cockpit area requires new solutions, in order to utilize the tight space in an optimal way and to provide a simple and intuitive human machine interface. The paper describes integration concepts in the areas of electronics and human machine interface, and new packaging solutions for future cockpits.
