Abstract
During the last 2 years we have witnessed a transition from analog data acquisition systems, typically located off-board and connected to sensors installed on the car by means of an umbilical cable or a telemetric transmission apparatus, to miniaturized digital data acquisition systems (DAS) located on-board that are user-friendly, easy to configure, more accurate, and available with many channels. This report describes a DAS on-board digital data acquisition system for car crash testing, with 48 channels, that was introduced recently at FIAT Auto Safety Centre and discusses the significant technical advantages it has compared to the old telemetry systems used until a year ago.
