Abstract
The standard Adaptive Cruise Control is designed for driving on highways with higher speed. The limitation with respect to lower speeds is mainly necessary because of the limited field of sensor- view. Therefore, many traffic situations (e.g. traffic jams) are not covered by ACC. In this paper a system design is presented, where the standard ACC, covered by Long Range Radar, is combined with radar sensors covering the near front area of the car (Short Range Radar), based on 24 GHz technology. It is thus possible to support the driver in following a preceding car at lower speeds and in Stop&Go traffic.
